Step through the front door and the exposed stone feature wall immediately sets the tone: this is a place with genuine history and texture, not a sanitised holiday rental. The living room is generous and inviting, furnished for comfort without sacrificing character. Soft lighting, warm textiles, and carefully chosen pieces make it a room you will want to return to each evening, perhaps with a dram in hand and the last of the light fading over the loch.
The kitchen is fully equipped for everything from a hearty Highland breakfast to a proper dinner party. An induction hob, dishwasher, and full-size fridge-freezer mean you have everything you need to cook well, and the washing machine — along with horse racks for drying — keeps longer stays practical and comfortable.
Both shower rooms are accessed from the landing, giving them a proper sense of shared domestic space rather than the squeeze of en-suite bathrooms. The three bedrooms are well-proportioned and dressed with quality linen, each offering the kind of restful sleep you come to the Highlands for.

And from the front, those panoramic views of Kyleakin village and Loch Alsh are simply unforgettable — Eilean Bàn, the island where Gavin Maxwell spent his final years, sits just offshore, and on clear days the mountains of the mainland rise behind. The village of Kyleakin is a short walk away, with a pub, café, and the ferry crossing to the Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland. Portree, Sligachan, and the great peaks and peninsulas of Skye are all within easy driving distance. The Farmhouse is as good a base as you will find on the island.
